The five were part of an eight-man gang that raided Top Plaza on Kindaruma Road, according to witnesses.
“We had a security dispatch at around 3am to this place but when we arrived there, the guard at the gate signalled that there was a problem. He was also in pain since he was hit by a speeding vehicle as some thugs were escaping,” Obed Gacheru a guard there recounted.
Three of the gangsters were shot dead at about 6am but it took four more hours for the other two to be gunned down by officers from the Recce Squad who were called for reinforcements.
Kilimani CID chief George Ochaka says they are now looking for the other thugs who escaped with some of the stolen items.
“We were alerted last night that there were thugs… they were armed since we have recovered a firearm. They wanted to steal computers inside this building; we also found a laptop at the gate,” he said.
Investigations are ongoing to ascertain how the robbers gained access to the tightly guarded building which also has CCTV cameras at the gate.
