NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 29 – A system breakdown at Juja Road substation in Nairobi on Tuesday afternoon caused a major power blackout affecting many electricity customers in Nairobi, Mount Kenya and Coast Regions.
Kenya Power Chief Engineer for System Control, Henry Odedeh said the breakdown was caused by a broken high voltage conductor at the substation which led to system disturbance shutting bulk power supplies from Olkaria and Seven Forks dams.
The areas not affected by the power outage included Kisumu, Eldoret, Kitale and Nakuru.
Kenya Power said the company’s engineers were currently on site to ensure power supply was normalised within the shortest time possible.
