NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 25 – When police Constable Francis Murage and Samuel Cheptok died in an explosion at Pangani, the country lost two gallant officers, Starehe OCPD Barasa Wabomba has told Capital FM News.
For Wabomba, he has lost two officers who he knew very well as diligent and focused in ensuring the country was safe from criminals.
“The one that I knew first was Murage in 1983 on December 16 in the General Service Unit, F Company. He was the one who welcomed me there and even advised me on how to survive there as a newly posted officer,” he recalled.
“We worked together from 1983 to 1989 when we parted ways.”
Ironically, Wabomba was later posted in Starehe, as Pangani Police Station boss where Murage was working and again received him but now as his junior.
“We did not meet again until I was posted in this division and he was the one he received me in their patrol car. He was even the one who took my belongings to my house,” he said.
Cheptok was Barasa’s personal driver in the station and he says, “He was obedient and a silent worker who obeyed every command.”
President Uhuru Kenyatta also mourned the officers on Thursday, during a pass-out parade of General Service Unit officers.
Wabomba however said despite the act, police will not relent in the war against crime.
“We shall fight crime until all Kenyans are safe…we will not relent,” he said.

President Kenyatta has assured the country of his Government commitment to ensure there was security in the entire country.
“We are committed to the fight against crime whatever form it may take ranging from terrorism to cattle rustling and we will not relent in the ongoing fight against terror and other forms of crime in the country.
“My Government will commit more resources to provide security officers with modern equipment and tools to enable them effectively execute their duties. I expect the police to obey the law as they enforce the law and treat Kenyans with dignity to win their confidence,” he affirmed on Thursday.
Among the measures taken is the ongoing police operation dubbed Usalama Watch which has seen police arrest suspected terrorist and even recovering explosives materials.
Over 200 aliens have also been deported and the Government has vowed to continue with the operation, until security in the country is under control.
