Don’t politicise security operations – Uhuru

“I will remind you of two things: first, that corruption directly threatens the nation’s security; second, that those who threaten this nation’s safety will see that my Government has a stern side,” he affirmed.

To the new police officers, he advised them to uphold the values of the Constitution and not to betray the trust of Kenyans.

“If you do not uphold these values – and particularly if you give in to corruption – then you will have failed your country, and shamed the friends and family who have come here to celebrate with you,” he said.

The 3,221 recruits underwent 15 months of intensive training at the AP training college.

The President reminded those still in possession of illegal guns to surrender them before the deadline given lapses, failure to which they will face the consequences.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph ole Lenku defended the police saying they were acting as per the law saying critics of Usalama Watch operation wants to tarnish the noble task of ensuring Kenyans remains safe.

“To those who continuously break the law, involve themselves in criminal activities or terrorism activities, they have a reason to worry,” he stated.

“The writing is on the wall …we will not do our work to their wishes but as provided in the law to make sure that we protect our society from those who engage in unlawful activities.”

Deputy President William Ruto appealed to all Kenyans to support the Government’s efforts to rid the country of all crime, saying criminals are not specific to any tribe, religion or social status.

“Every Kenyan – irrespective of tribe or religion – should support Government in creating a safe environment for business and prosperity,” he said.
