MOMBASA, Kenya, Apr 9 – A couple suspected to have been involved in the March 23 Likoni church gun attack that left six people dead and 15 others seriously injured have been charged in court.
Juma Hamisi Hassan and his wife Misaid Athman are accused of being involved in the attack after they were found with materials linked with terrorism.
Prosecutor, Ngina Mutua said police recovered nine CDs and DVDs that advocated jihad while others contained paramilitary training.
“The police raided their house in Likoni District where they conducted a search inside and outside the house recovering some handwritten weapon training notes in Kiswahili, English and Arabic languages among other items,” she stated.
The accused appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Justus Kituku where they denied the charges.
On March 28, two suspects believed to be part of the gang that attacked the church in Likoni were killed by police.
She told the court that the DVDs and CDs have been handed over to the cyber crime unit attached at CID headquarters for further analysis.
The two, who were unrepresented, were remanded at Shimo la Tewa prison.
The two were also charged with infringing children’s rights by unlawfully taking into custody two children whose father was killed by anti-terror police officers in Majengo last year.
