NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 10 – President Uhuru Kenyatta has appointed Bruce Odhiambo the chairperson of the Youth Enterprise Development Fund (YEDF) board.

The appointment was made after that of Gor Evans Semelang’o – who has been the board’s chairman since January 16, 2013 was revoked.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 5 (2) (a) of the Youth Enterprise Development Fund Order, 2007, I, Uhuru Kenyatta, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces appoint Bruce Odhiambo to be the Chairperson of the Board of the Youth Enterprise Development Fund,” a special issue of the Kenya Gazette reads.

Odhiambo’s appointed takes effect from March 1.

Semalang’o who had been appointed by President Mwai Kibaki still had two more years left to serve as per the gazette notice that formalised his appointment.

President Kenyatta has appointed Odhiambo for a period of three years and he becomes the fourth chairperson since the inception of the fund in 2006.

Odhiambo has for the last seven years worked with women and youth to create competitive businesses as a Director of Infinity Business Solutions (IBS) Consulting Services.

“We work with you to develop firms that can compete successfully in the marketplace. The Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE), Minority/Women owned Small business (M/WBE) programs provide a vehicle to assist firms in increasing the utilization of disadvantaged businesses in local, State, federal programs and private sector corporations,” his LinkedIn profile reads.

He also holds a degree in Business Administration from Walden University of California with a specialty in Marketing.

Prior to being appointed chair of the YEDF, Semalang’o had served as a member of the board for three years taking over from James Gitau Singh (2010 to 2013) who took over from Hellen Tombo (2006 to 2009).

President Kenyatta has also appointed Mumina Bonaya as the chairperson of the Advisory Board of the Women Enterprise Fund for a period of three years.
