Top cops reluctant to share bank records for wives

Though aware his lawyer cannot offer any legal help during the session, he appeared before the panel with his lawyer.

Njiru was tasked to explain the current upsurge of crime and specifically in Nairobi’s leafy suburbs.

He gave examples of the highly gated Karen area saying security personnel have been colluding with criminal gangs in executing their plans.

“Crime has changed because of use of technology and they are also very tactful… crime has changed the pattern” he said.

“Four years ago we used to have areas like Githurai, Kahawa…that’s where we used to have upsurge of crime, but now they are targeting the affluent areas.”

“We have an issue with the current security guards…a place like Karen is a gated community area and even the movement of people on foot is very minimal; I think there is a collaboration between them and thugs,” he lamented.

He went ahead to say that whenever there is a syndicate led by ex-officers who have either retired or were discontinued on disciplinary grounds, “it appears a bit hard to get them.”

He said there was need to compile data of all police officers who fall under these circumstances.

“We want to get all the data of those retired police, army, prison officers,” he said.

Other officers who were vetted are Patrick Lumumba currently at Vigilance House, Philip Ndolo (Vigilance House), Patrick Obimo, Gabriel Musau (Homa Bay), Mohammed Amin (CID Nyeri), Peter Muinde (CID training school) and Antony Kamitu (General Service Unit headquarters).

Others are, Zephania Kamau (CID Nairobi), Kiptoo Kapchanja (Kitale Police Station), Joseph Musyoki (AP Hqs) Charles Mumanthi (Vigilance), William Singoei (GSU Ruiru), Muli Ngina (Vigilance), Japhet Koome (Vigilance), Jacinta Kinyua (CID headquarters), Ambrose Munyasya (CID Kakamega), Gideon Ngumi (Dog Unit), Joseph Mugwanja (CID headquarters, Simon Kilonzo (CID headquarters), Chelengo Musa (CID Garissa), Johnson Mwangi (Airwing), Walter Aliwa (KPC), David Cheruiyot(CID), Aineah Olwenywe (Vigilance) and Hamisi Mwarua (CID Headquarters).
