KISUMU, Kenya, Mar 14 – The Court of Appeal sitting in Kisumu has upheld the election of Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya.
In the ruling issued Friday morning, the Appellate judges David Musinga, Festus Azangalala and Sankale Ole Kantai said that after reviewing all the evidence, they were satisfied that Oparanya was validly elected in the March 4, 2013 poll.
The petition against Oparanya was filed by Mabel Muruli who wanted the election nullified, accusing the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission of unlawfully locking her out of the race.
While dismissing Muruli’s appeal, the Appelate Judges said the High Court was justified in its ruling, adding the appeal lacked merit.
