NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 14 – Motorists will pay more for petrol following the latest review released on Friday afternoon by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).
In the price review for Nairobi, a litre of super petrol will sell at Sh113.61 while diesel will sell at Sh104.87 after going down by 93 cents.
Kerosene is up by 84 cents to retail at Sh83.91 per litre.
The commission attributed the increase of petrol prices to the average higher cost of imported products, despite a stable exchange rate in the month of February.
“The average landed cost of imported diesel decreased by 1.25 percent from $983.44 per ton in January 2014 to $971.15 per ton in February 2014. Over the same period, the average landed cost of imported kerosene increased by 0.25 percent from $1,011.76 per ton in January 2014 to $1,014.28 per ton in February 2014,” Director of Petroleum Linus Gitonga said in a statement.
Motorists in Mombasa will purchase a litre of super petrol at Sh110.25, diesel at Sh101.53 and kerosene Sh81.12.
In Nakuru, customers will spend Sh114.24 on super petrol, Sh105.72 on diesel and Sh84.67 on kerosene while in Kisumu, super petrol will cost Sh115.45, diesel Sh106.93 and kerosene will sell at Sh85.69.
Mandera motorists will buy fuel at the highest price in comparison to other towns, where a litre of super petrol will sell at Sh127.42, Sh118.68 for diesel and kerosene going for Sh97.72.
Gitonga emphasised the need for all petroleum marketing companies and dealers not to sell petroleum products above the maximum prices.
