Driver recalls bullet whizzing past at Westgate

Security guard Sylvester Kyundu – in the terrorism case facing Mohamed Abdi, Liban Omar, Adan Mohamed and Hussein Mustafah – recalled in court how he searched and allowed the car buyers entry into the Barclays Bank Queensway branch.

“It was on September 6, 2013 at 1955 hours. They were two wariahs (Somalis) and other Kenyans and as they didn’t have guns. I let them through as I’m not allowed to ask them their business,” he testified.

Once inside the bank, it was Grace Wamuru who transacted their business, the purchase of the grey Mitsubishi from an Elvis Wenllow.

“The deposit was for USD3,900. I remember because the amount was initially USD4,000 but one of the USD100 dollar bills was either torn or old,” she recounted.

In October 2013, Anti Terrorism Police Unit chief Boniface Mwaniki offered a Sh500,000 reward for information that would lead to the capture of Abdikadir Haret Mohammed alias Mohamed Hussein, a Kenyan and Adab Dheq alias Hussein Abdi Ali, the two ‘wariahs’ who purchased the grey Mitsubishi from Wenllow.

On Wednesday however, the prosecution fell short of directly linking the four suspects on trial either to the car or those who purchased it and are still at large.

Sergeant Ezekiel Luley who was unable to give his testimony on Wednesday because of time is expected to be the first to take the stand on Thursday.
