The speed governors are also expected to have speed recorders which are retrievable by motor vehicle inspectors.
NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 14 – Public Service Vehicle operators now have 18 days remaining to get rid of their old speed governors and fit their vehicles with the digital versions approved by the National Transport and Safety Authority(NTSA).
In a statement, NTSA Director General Francis Meja says that the deadline will expire on March 31 and had earlier stated that those who do not comply will have their operating licenses revoked.
“The National Transport and Safety Authority wishes to remind all PSV operators that the deadline for compliance with the regulations gazetted on December 17, 2013 by the Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Transport expires on March 31, 2014,” he indicated in the statement.
The speed governors are also expected to have speed recorders which are retrievable by motor vehicle inspectors.
In the statement, the DG further revealed that NTSA has approved 15 firms who meet the requirements stipulated to supply the speed governors and recorders.
“We wish to advice the general public and specifically the PSV operators that as at March, 2014, the following firms have met the requirement of KS 2295-1-2011 and KS 2295-2-2011 and are therefore authorized to supply the speed limiters and recorder; Dalcom Enterprises, Pinnacle Systems LTD, Power Governors, Cable Car Corporation and EKAS Technologies,” he said.
Other companies shortlisted included Saferider management, Simba Corporation, Papo Hapo Solution LTD, Eureka Technical Service, Markman and Company LTD, Control Tech LTD, Paymatic, Lab Technologies Innovations and Flex Communications LTD.
All the vehicles issued with an interim inspection certificate have to be presented before March 31, 2014 to confirm that the correct speed governor has been fitted.
