NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 25 – The AMREF Flying Doctors is set to evacuate to Nairobi a boy who has a bullet lodged in his head after Sunday’s attack at a Likoni church.

One-and-a-half year-old Satrine Osinya was admitted to the Coast General Hospital but he requires specialized attention at the Kenyatta National Hospital. The air ambulance service was set to airlift him on Tuesday and the government has pledged to meet all medical costs, according to State House Digital Media Director Dennis Itumbi.

“All costs for the operation on Baby Satrine Osinya will be covered by the Government,” he stated on his Twitter handle.

The child’s mother is among six people who were killed in the attack where three suspected terrorists entered the Joy in Jesus Church in Likoni on Sunday morning and sprayed worshippers with bullets.

Once at the Kenyatta National Hospital, the baby will be operated by Dr Peter Wanyoike, a renowned Neurosurgeon who has taken up the case on a charity basis.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has warned that his government will act decisively to quash terror threats in the country, saying terrorism has no place in Kenya.

The Head of State said that he was pained by the actions of criminals who opened fire on worshipers in the Church on Sunday, adding that the Government will use all its machinery to ensure the perpetrators are brought to book.

It is not the first time suspected terrorists have targeted church worshipers with similar attacks having occurred in Northern Kenya and in Tanzania in May last year.

In October last year Muslim youth were accused of burning down a Salvation Army church in protest of the killing of controversial Muslim cleric Ibrahim Ismail.

The attack also comes barely a week after police in Mombasa uncovered a vehicle loaded with explosives at one of their impound lots and less than a week after Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph ole Lenku assured the public that security agencies have the security situation in the country firmly in hand.
