Wambora’s impeachment bid goes notch higher

The court-like-committee, will allow the Embu Governor and his deputy to argue their case with their lawyers. This was explained after Senator Amos Wako asked the Speaker to explain whether they are supposed to be impeached together.

Ethuro however said the committee will decide what mode to use while dealing with the matter.

In a thinly veiled attack to Governors, Migori Senator Wilfred Machage urged the committee to exercise humility as they deal with the case, and “not to remember” the kind of humiliation the Senate has been undergoing from the Governors.

“Indeed the matter comes when Governors have intentionally refused to appear before Senate committees. There is a proverb in Kiswahili that states, and I quote “Usione simba amelala, ukadhani amekufa’,” he stated, but the Speaker asked him to refrain from digressing.

“I will try to avoid the matter that is already in the public domain but my point was to emphasise on humility.”

Nyeri Senator Mutahi Kagwe said, “The committee should close their ears and make sure they focus on delivering justice.”

Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, a member of the committee assured the country that they will only work to deliver justice.

He quoted a verse in the Bible; Proverb 21:15 to support his assurance. “When justice is done, it brings joy to the righteous but terror to evildoers.”

The committee comprises Senators Kipchumba Murkomen, Kimani Wamatangi, Zipporah Kittony, Prof Wilfred Lesan, Naisula Lesuuda, Peter Mosite and James Orengo.

The committee will investigate the proposed removal from office of the Governor and Deputy Governor of Embu County and report to the Senate within 10 days of its appointment on whether it finds the particulars of the allegations to have been substantiated.
