NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 13 – The United States Ambassador to Kenya, Robert Godec, has denied allegations by the National Security Advisory Committee (NSAC) that the US government, through its international agency for development (USAID), is using activists to undermine the Kenyan government.

And while admitting that they do work with civil society organisations in the areas of, “security, health, education, conflict prevention, agriculture, and in many other areas,” he termed the accusations as false.

“The Government of the United States is a strong and committed partner of the Government of Kenya and has been so for 50 years,” his statement reads.

He also stated that the agency’s officials were willing to meet with and clear up matter with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as directed by NSAS Chairman Francis Kimemia.

“The Government of the United States, including USAID, coordinates its activities in Kenya in a transparent manner and in collaboration with the Government of Kenya. We have always and will continue to share information about our programs with the Kenyan government,” he stated.

Boniface Mwangi, who believes he is the Boniface M, Kimemia said was being used by USAID to undermine the government, also denied Kimemia’s accusations calling for proof.

“The government claims that l’m been (sic) funded to topple the government; where am l banking that money?” he posed through his Twitter account @bonifacemwangi.

Mwangi was one of the organisers of Thursday’s #FEB13PROTEST that Kimemia had alleged USAID was using to undermine the government.

“NSAC is in possession of credible intelligent (sic) documents and information detailing how the US donor agency has consistently funded the demonstrations by activists funded and led by two identified initially as Boniface M and John G on February 13, 2014,” Kimemia alleged on Wednesday.

USAID has also come under fire from Deputy President William Ruto’s defence in the case facing him before the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Ruto’s lead counsel Karim Khan as recently as Tuesday implied that USAID was guilty of inducing witnesses into giving false testimony against Ruto before the ICC.

Allegations Godec has declined to comment on, on the grounds that it is the subject of Court proceedings.
