Senate directive to Governors stands, won’t cut county funds

Council of Governors’ chairman Isaac Ruto in the meantime pointed out that the summoning of County Chief Executives to explain irregularities within their county records should be a last resort.

Ruto reiterated that County Officers in charge of finance are in a better position to account for any irregularities in the records.

He rubbished summons extended to him by the Senate Committee on Finance saying there was no indication in the Auditor’s report for Bomet County of misappropriation of funds.

He however pointed out that he is ready to work together with the Senate and called for dialogue to iron out any contentious issues.

The session on Tuesday known as a Kamukunji was chaired jointly by Speakers Justin Muturi of the National Assembly and his Senate counterpart Ekwe Ethuro.

Majority leader Aden Duale had last week hinted that the session will discuss among other issues, structured ways of taming the Governors who are opposed to having the Senate hold them accountable in their expenditures.

Earlier, the Speakers of the National Assembly and Senate held a separate meeting with the Chief Justice, Willy Mutunga.
