NAIROBI, Kenya Feb 28 – The body of a pilot who had been reported kidnapped has been found dumped in a septic tank at his home in Nairobi’s Karen area.

The deceased identified by police as David Macharia was based at the Wilson Airport, having retired from the Kenya Air Force.

According to police, people who claimed to have abducted him called the family and demanded a Sh100,000 ransom, part of which was paid out.

However, his body was discovered in a septic tank within his compound on Thursday night, raising concerns on the credibility of the earlier kidnapping report.

“Our officers have been investigating this incident since the time the family reported a kidnapping, and this investigation has led us to where the body was dumped,” Nairobi Police chief Benson Kibue said.

Police said they had sought the help of fire brigade to retrieve the body as they investigate the motive of the killing believed to be linked to a property dispute.

“We are interrogating everyone who knows anything about this incident, including the people who had reported the pilot kidnapped,” he said.

Police have said they are also investigating if the killing is linked, in any way to a long-standing property dispute.
