The project is expected to boost security around the airport and even protect it from the possibility of a missile attack.
“Once implemented, the project will also act as the coordinating point for the outer, perimeter intruder detection security systems, protection of the Kenya Pipeline Corporation Jet fuel depot, and the security operations base camp for protection against the threat of Man Operated Anti-Aircraft Devices (MANPADS) on low flying aircraft,” a statement from State House, Nairobi said.
The latest security threat on the airport occurred when an explosion took place at a cafe adjacent to one of the terminal buildings in JKIA, the region’s busiest transport hub. There were however no casualties.
Security checks at the entrance of the airport have been significantly beefed up since the blast.

The NSC meeting in the meantime also expressed concern over increased threats of radicalization.
It was noted that the threat was manifested in increased prevalence of radicalization centres, and particularly Masjid Musa and Sakina Mosques in Mombasa and Pumwani Riyadh Mosque in Majengo, Nairobi.
The council outlined the impact radicalization on the political economic, social and security well-being of the country and approved measures to deal with the matter.
“The NSC therefore approved measures to deal with the matter that includes enhancing security measures to contain the threat, targeting person’s leaders preaching and financing radicalization and dealing with economic hardships which lead to unemployment.”
It further pointed out that it is implementing the counter radicalization strategy developed by the Government which includes engaging the youth in gainful employment and continuous monitoring of all radicalization activities.
