The High Commissioner was slightly injured during the incident that occurred at about 10 pm.
“We are holding a house help and guards who were on duty at the time of the incident to establish if they had prior information but we have not arrested the prime suspects,” Nairobi CID boss Nicholas Kamwende told Capital FM News on telephone.
The thugs are reported to have stole Sh170,000, a television set and other items from the High Commissioner’s residence, according to police.
Kamwende said the guards will be required to explain how the gang of six gained entrance into the tightly guarded compound “as early as 10pm without their knowledge.”
Police say they are increasingly concerned about the high rate of burglaries in Karen area after Makueni MP Daniel Maanzo was also attacked at his home last week.
Maanzo and his wife were attacked on Wednesday morning at their Hardy Estate home in Karen, during which they both sustained injuries.
Their house help was also home but was not injured when between five gunmen invaded their home at around 3am, according Lang’ata police Chief Titus Yoma.
“They scaled the perimeter wall to access the house then they took out one of the window panes,” Yoma explained.
The robbers then used crude weapons to subdue Maanzo and his wife before proceeding to strip them of cash and valuables.
The robbers took away three mobile phones, a laptop and Sh10,000.
Police said they were investigating if the attacks were perpetrated by the same gang.
