MOMBASA, Kenya, Feb 3 – At least 129 youths have been charged for being members of Al Shabaab terror group following Sunday’s shoot-out at a Mombasa Mosque.

Four of them were not physically present in court because they are admitted in hospital for injuries sustained in the chaotic incident in which three people- including a police officer – were killed.

The suspects did not however, plead to the charges after the prosecution indicated that they were still undertaking their investigations.

They were arraigned before Shanzu Senior Resident Magistrate James Ombura who has remanded them in Shimo La Tewa prison until Friday when they will formally plead to the charges.

Security forces are weighing whether or not to order the closure of Masjid Musa mosque where the youths were allegedly found undertaking a radicalisation ceremony.
