According to a source, the court notified Ruto’s lawyers that the trial had been postponed from resuming on Monday to Thursday.
Ruto will however be traveling at a later date to be at The Hague on January 16 when his trial is expected to resume.
On Monday, Ruto’s office confirmed that he was getting ready to travel over the weekend to be present when his case resumes on January 13.
However the International Criminal Court (ICC) Trial Chamber V (a) which is hearing his case has not yet communicated the change of the date to the media.
It was unclear why the date was changed.
Since the trial against Ruto and his co-accused former journalist Joshua arap Sang kicked off on September 10, 2013, it faced two interruptions after prosecution witnesses failed to appear as scheduled.
The case initially adjourned for few days after the first prosecution witness arrived late. The trial also again adjourned prematurely on November 22 after the ninth witness also failed to appear.
Two other witnesses who could have followed the 8th witness in giving their testimony were also not available before the November 29 when the court was expected to take the Christmas and New Year break.
