Immigration boss Waikenda collapses, hospitalised

JANE-WAIKENDA

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 9 – The Director of Immigration Jane Waikenda has been hospitalised after collapsing while being taken to the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission offices for questioning.

Waikenda had been picked up by EACC detectives for questioning over the issuance of work permits to foreigners.

Yassin Aila, the Commission’s Spokesman has told Capital FM News that Waikenda and the detectives had just arrived at the commission offices, and just as they were getting in, she collapsed.

“It is true the Immigration Director had been picked up by our officers and collapsed before they could get into the commission,” Aila said, adding “she was immediately taken to hospital for treatment from a medical condition.”

Waikenda is now admitted to the Nairobi Hospital where she was taken for emergency treatment over an unknown medical condition.

The commission said it was preparing to send an official statement on the matter in due course.

EACC has been investigating various officials at Nyayo House over the irregular issuance of permits to foreigners.

Several officers have been questioned over the matter, with the commission indicating it will prosecute anyone found culpable.
