LONDON, Jan 17 – Queen Elizabeth II’s granddaughter Zara Phillips gave birth to a baby girl on Friday, Buckingham Palace announced.

The baby is the first child for 32-year-old Phillips, a former eventing world champion, and her rugby-player husband Mike Tindall.

The birth arrives five months after Britain’s other royal baby — Prince George, born to Phillips’s cousin Prince William and his wife Kate.

“Mrs Michael Tindall today safely delivered a baby girl at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital” in southwest England, the palace said in a statement.

“Mr Tindall was present at the birth. The weight of the baby was 7lbs 12oz (3.5 kilograms).”

The queen and her husband are “delighted with the news”, the palace said.

The baby is a fourth great-grandchild for the queen and is 16th in line to the throne.

Her name will be announced in due course, the palace said.

Phillips is the eldest child of Princess Anne and her ex-husband Mark Phillips.

Tindall plays for Gloucester and is a former England centre. The couple married in 2011.
