Noting that the government was steadfast and clear on where it is headed under the leadership of President Uhuru Kenyatta, the Deputy President said they did not need middlemen, interpreters nor brokers to show them how to run a government.
Ruto was speaking on Sunday at St Bernadette Catholic Church, Ngoingwa in Thika where he joined the congregation for a Sunday service and a fundraiser in aid of the church.
The Deputy President criticized those whom he called junior politicians from the Jubilee coalition complaining through the media for allegedly being short-changed, saying they were suffering from hangovers of the past.
“This is not the past coalition government that was steeped in complaints about who is being denied this and that privilege. It is a government led by a hands-on President with tremendous abilities and an able deputy who are aware of where they are leading this country,” he said.
Ruto made it clear that he and the President were seasoned and experienced politicians who knew how to drive the transformation agenda of this country, adding the government was keen on seeing through the recently launched construction of a standard gauge railway line, completion of the multi billion expansion of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, and other infrastructure dotting the countryside besides the general improvement of Kenyans lives and will not be distracted by empty talk in the media about non-existent friction in government.
He said: “We are running a focused and efficient government that will change lives and take the country to the next level, we do not therefore need middlemen, brokers or interpreters to show us how to go about it.”
Ruto emphasised that the government had no intention of gagging the media adding that the Constitution had enough safeguards to allow space for dictatorship.
Noting that the government is not against freedom of the press or any other freedoms, the Deputy President said the government had no intention of rolling democracy backwards by gagging the media.
The Deputy President was taking a cue from more than 20 MPs who dismissed any suggestion that there was disquiet in government.
The leaders who included the Leader of the Majority in the Senate Kithure Kindiki chided those trying to drive a wedge between the Jubilee coalition partners saying they should not play into the hands of the opposition who have not come to terms with their loss in the General Election in March and were fomenting trouble in government with the hope of assuming power should the government collapse.
Noting that they will not succeed in their machinations, the MPs noted that the Jubilee family is united and those bent on sowing seeds of discord within the ranks of the coalition will fail miserably as leaders in Jubilee will do whatever it takes to ensure that the government delivers.
The MPs asked the opposition to make constructive criticisms instead of criticizing for the sake of it noting that some of the issues raised by CORD had no substance and amounted to incitement.
The MPs said the Jubilee government was steadfast and will lead the country for the next 20 years; 10 years for President Kenyatta and 10 years for Ruto.
