NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 23- Kenya Airways (KQ) has suspended all its flights to and from Juba, South Sudan from December 23 to 31 following continued inter-ethnic fighting in the country.
This is the second time the national airline has cancelled its flights to and from the war-hit country since the unrest began last week.
Affected flights from Nairobi to Juba during the period include KQ350, KQ352, KQ354 while those from Juba to Nairobi are KQ351, KQ353 and KQ355.
KQ Chief Operating Officer, Mbuvi Ngunze said all customers who had made their bookings to travel during the period will be refunded.
“Full refund for fully unutilised tickets shall be allowed to passengers who were booked to travel during the above mentioned period. Partially utilised tickets shall be refunded less the used portion,” Ngunze said.
Normal operations for the route are expected to resume on January 1, upon communication.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused,” Ngunze told the affected customers.
The move by Kenya Airways comes even as the government continues with the evacuation exercise of stranded Kenyans in Juba and Bor is South Sudan.
So far, over 100 Kenyans have arrived in the country, with close to 1500 expected to be flown home using the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) aircrafts.
Over 30,000 tonnes of food has been taken to South Sudan to tackle the humanitarian crisis facing the stranded Kenyans.
