Police said the bus was carrying PCEA youths from Mombasa to Nairobi when it collided head on with the tanker at Mariakani.
“Four of them have died and 36 others injured,” Coast Traffic Police chief Martin Kariuki said, adding “eight of those hospitalized are in a critical condition.”
Luckily, another police officer said, the fuel tanker that was carrying crude oil did not explode on impact.
Those injured were receiving treatment at various hospitals in Mombasa, mainly private hospitals due the health crisis which has crippled services at state-run hospitals, including the Coast General Hospital.
On Thursday night, ten people were killed when a truck rammed onto six vehicles in Isiolo, wounding seven other people.
According to police, the trailer lost control and hit the vehicles, including three taxis that were parked at Subuiga black spot on the Meru-Isiolo junction.
Traffic Commandant, Samuel Kimaru, has warned motorists to strictly adhere to traffic regulations to avoid unnecessary accidents, particularly during the festive season when most public roads are busy.
