Speaking in Mombasa, Ruto said the Jubilee government was committed to issuing three million title deeds within the current five-year tenure.
“We will be coming back to coast province under the leadership of the President; it is important for people of this province and Kenyans,” said Ruto.
Kenyatta is expected to tour Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Malindi, Lamu and other areas on his fortnight tour of title deed issuance.
The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) leaders have been critiquing the Jubilee government for using title deeds, terming it a gimmick to woo coast people who massively supported CORD in the last General Election.
Last Saturday, CORD leader Raila Odinga cautioned coast residents against being lured with title deeds by the Jubilee government. However, Ruto chastised the leaders opposing the government development initiatives.
“We want to put our differences aside, issues that are not critical to movement of country forward aside ,unite for the common purpose of changing our country for the better, “said Ruto.
He said leaders should support development initiative that will transform lives of millions of Kenyans.
The Jubilee government promised coast leaders that they would be involved in the land processes for transparency and accountability. The President in August explained that the government will fast track the adjudication of land in the region and ensure more titles are issued to residents annually.
Kenyatta did this as he issued 60,000 titles to Coastal residents.
During the event at Karisa Maitha Stadium in Kilifi County, the President promised that the Jubilee Government would issue three million title deeds to Kenyans in the next five years.
“We said the land question in Kenya is an issue that has been there for over 50 years and we pledged that if we won the elections, we would end the land question and bring the land answer,” said President Kenyatta.
