NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 18 – Former Juja Member of Parliament and one-time Government Chief Whip George Thuo is dead.

Thuo is reported to have died on Sunday night after collapsing while having drinks with friends at a club in Thika town.

Police reports indicate that the former legislator was first rushed to a hospital in Thika for emergency treatment before he was transferred to the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi.

“He started complaining of high fever and that is when he was rushed to the local hospital, but when the situation deteriorated he was transferred to Nairobi,” a friend of the deceased told Capital FM News.

The friend, quoting a witness, said an ambulance had to be called all the way from Nairobi to Thika to ferry him to the capital city, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

His body was later moved to the Lee Funeral Home.

Thuo was the founder of City Hoppa bus company where he held a substantial stake.

He holds a steady track record in the public transport industry having held top positions at the defunct Kenya Bus Service company.

The late Thuo was elected MP for Juja in the 2007 General Election on the Party of National Unity (PNU), but lost the seat in April 2010 after a successful petition over irregularities.

William Kabogo who is the current Kiambu Governor captured the seat on a Narc-Kenya ticket.

The constituency is currently represented by Francis Waititu of The National Alliance (TNA) party.
