NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 15 – Fourteen-year-old twins kidnapped from Westlands last week were on Monday night rescued at a house in Upper Matasia, Ngong.

Police said they had been tracking the kidnappers from the moment they contacted the family of the teenage girls demanding a Sh86 million ransom.

“We finally got them and they are safe,” a police officer involved in the security operation to rescue the young girls said.

During the operation, nine suspects – including a former police officer – were arrested.

“They had been in touch with the family and at some point they asked for Sh20 million,” he said.

The girls are from a family that runs a chain of hotels both in Nairobi and around East Africa.

They were rescued by a team of detectives drawn from the Flying Squad unit and Special Crimes Prevention Unit (SCPU) which was working closely with the Criminal Intelligence Unit (CIU) based at the CID headquarters.
