The Kenya National Examinations Council Chief Executive Officer Paul Wasanga told Capital FM News that the council had not received any complaints by Tuesday afternoon.
“Today has been a good day; no complaints but I can’t say the day was perfect as we are dealing with more than 7,000 exam centres,” he said.
Wasanga explained that all examination papers were delivered on time in all centres.
“The report I have received is that all students started their exams at the right time,” he affirmed.
Students will sit the exams in 7,606 centres across the country compared to 6,934 centres in 2012, representing an increase of 672 centres.
A spot check by Capital FM News in various exam centres in Nairobi revealed most schools started their exam by 8am.
The head teacher at Nairobi’s St George’s Girl Secondary School Bertha Omanya said that examination papers were received in the school on time.
Omanya said preparations including security were also completed on time.
“The government has given us security officers during this period and internally we have our own security guards just to enhance our security,” she said.
She said invigilators have been told to be watchful on examinations cheating saying they have already sensitised the 213 students sitting the exam in the school against the vice.
“We have made them aware of the consequences and also we have also sensitised their parents against buying fake exam papers from tricksters outside there,” she pointed out.
“So far we have not encountered any case of cheating; our students are well prepared.”
Nairobi Milimani Secondary School head teacher Merenciah Okemwa also says the process has been smooth since exams started on time.
“The progress is good since morning when we started our first paper; English Paper 1 and now we are doing the next paper. Everything is in order,” she said.
