NAIROBI Kenya, Oct 29 – The Chief Executive Officer of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission James Oswago has been arrested alongside three other officials over a Sh1.3 billion tender scandal during the past General Election.

Oswago was picked up on Tuesday afternoon by Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives who have been pursuing the matter since March.

Officials at Integrity Centre confirmed that Oswago was being held alongside deputy commissioner Wilson Shollei, procurement manager Willy Kamanga and procurements director Edward Karrissa.

The four were picked up in Naivasha where they were attending a workshop and driven to the EACC headquarters in Nairobi over the Sh1.3bn tender for purchase of electronic equipment.

EACC Chairperson Mumo Matemu says the four are expected to appear in court on Wednesday to face relevant charges after spending the night at the Kilimani police station.

“They were arrested in relation to procurement of equipment in the last General Election,” he said.

The four are all expected to appear in court on Wednesday to face relevant charges.
