NAIROBI Kenya, Oct 17 – Police are investigating the death of a suspected international drug trafficker at a Mombasa hotel where heroin worth Sh48 million was also recovered.

The Lithuanian national is reported to have booked the night in the hotel room with a female companion who has been taken in for questioning by the police.

The police are still waiting for a report from the Pandya Hospital on what caused the death of the suspect.

Another man also from Lithuania who is said to have been in the room with the couple has been treated and discharged and is now being questioned by the police. It is believed that the man had been drugged.

Coast regional police Chief Robert Kitur says the drugs were found stashed in suitcases in the hotel room.

“We have launched the investigation but we are certain that they never arrived in the country with the drugs,” he said.

Detectives are now investigating the cause of the man’s death as well as the source and destination of the drugs.
He identified the Lithuanian as Kudirke Gytis, 22.

Travel documents seized from the two men show that they arrived in the country on October 4 on tourist visas which are expiring on Friday.

“These peoples are drug traffickers, “he affirmed.
