Speaking at music concert in Nairobi, the ambassador however hesitated to comment on why the US went ahead to issue travel ban for its citizens despite promising support for Kenya.
Since the attack, the US became the first country to warn its citizens against travelling to Kenya, a move that has raised uproar.
“In the wake of horrific attack the message from the United States, from President Barack Obama and all the Americans has been very clear. We stand with Kenya,” he said.
“President Obama earlier called President Uhuru Kenyatta to express his condolence and offer full US support in response to the attack,” Godec maintained.
He called on Kenyans to remain united and work with the government in its effort to fight terrorism and insecurity as a whole.
“We have done and we will continue to do all what we can do to support Kenya and Kenyans in the wake of this terrible attack, especially on investigations that follows, “he said.
The ambassador’s statement comes at a time when the Kenyan government has expressed its disappointed after the US issued the travel advisory.
“We wish to unequivocally condemn the re-issuing of the travel advisory, and reject it as unnecessary and uncalled for,” the Foreign Affairs and International Trade Ministry said immediately said in reaction to the ban.
The ministry said it was unfair for the US to take such action.
“What has happened to us is not new to other countries. It has happened in the US, cities in Europe, in Asia and others. But we will move on and we won’t live in fear, “Nairobi governor Evans Kidero said during the concert.
“Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me,” he quoted Psalms 23:4 in the Bible.
