Kombo’s lawyer in Wetangula petition killed

POLICE-LINE (2)NAIROBI Kenya, Sept 17 – A lawyer representing Musikari Kombo in a petition challenging the election of Moses Wetangula as Bungoma Senator has been shot dead.

The lawyer was gunned down while heading home from a meeting in Bungoma town.

Police are investigating the motive of the killing because nothing was stolen from the advocate. According to police, the slain advocate’s belongings including a mobile phone, money and other valuables were all intact.

Western provincial Police boss Alfred Ombaba said investigators had launched a probe into the matter.

“He was shot dead by attackers who appear to have been waiting for him at the gate to his home. When he alighted to open the gate, they sprayed him with bullets, killing him instantly,” Ombaba explained.

“I don’t want to speculate what could have led to his killing but investigations are underway.”

The deceased represented Kombo in the petition alongside lawyer Alfred Ndambiri.

Reacting on his lawyer’s death, Kombo urged the police to expedite investigation and bring the assailants to book.

“Police should get to the bottom of the matter, there are lots of people killed and we never get to know what happened; suspects are never prosecuted,” he complained.

Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka also urged the police to act fast on the rising rate of crime in the County.

“We have a lot of insecurity cases for the last one month. The timing of this killing is worrying and those undertaking the investigation should do a proper and thorough job,” he demanded.

“We want to know why Wanyama Wanyonyi has been killed at this particular time.”

The lawyer’s brother questioned the manner the assailants carried out the killing as they did not even proceed to his house or steal anything just outside the gate to his compound.

“He was murdered at the gate, his phone worth Sh60,000 was not even taken,” he wondered.

The lawyer has been presenting Kombo in a petition challenging the election of Wetangula as Bungoma Senator whose ruling is set to be issued on September 30.
