Police Spokesperson Gatiria Mboroki investigations are underway and personnel have been deployed in the area to ensure security is restored.
She called upon members of the public with any valuable information to release it to the police, so as to expedite the continuing probe.
“We appeal to members of the public to report the masterminds of these attacks to the police for lasting peace to be fully restored,” she appealed.
“We further call on local leaders to cooperate with police in restoring sanity by holding peace barazas with their people.”
Mboroki said the police will not relent in the fight against crime in the country.
Tension has continued to grip areas in Marsabit County following inter-community clashes between the Borana and Gabra communities.
Mboroki said the killings were as a result of retaliatory attacks between the two communities which were ignited by an incident that occurred on August 23.
“The general security in the Upper Eastern region had greatly improved following intensive patrols by both the General Service Unit, Administration and Regular police,” she observed.
Several people have also been wounded in the series of attacks in the County pitting the Borana and Gabra clans.
On August 25, Interior Principal Secretary Mutea Iringo asked area leaders to come out and reconcile the warring communities.
He assured that security will be beefed up in the region: “We have sent more security personnel to Antut village where the people have been fighting.”
Following the weekend attacks, the Principal Secretary announced a resolution to “take action on illegal immigrants and armed Gabra currently stationed at Qolloba in Odda location.”
He did not give more details.
Local leaders have warned against arrests to avoid aggravating the already volatile situation.
“Both sides are involved, so if there are arrests, they must be from all the communities,” a local leader said.
