NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 13 – The man who sustained injuries in Monday’s shooting where a bride was killed at Corner House in Nairobi has succumbed to injuries at Kenyatta National Hospital where he was undergoing treatment.

Ayub Nyaoke, a police officer based in Narok, had travelled to Nairobi to attend his brother’s wedding that was scheduled for Saturday. He had accompanied the couple for shopping in the city centre when three gunmen confronted them at a shop and shot them, killing the bride on the spot.

Speaking to Capital FM News, Peter Owino the brother to the bride says Nyaoke died at around 1 am.

Owino has asked the police to expedite their investigation on what led to their attack.

“It’s a street with many banks so we expect security to be maximum; three gunshots and nothing was done? This is really disturbing,” he said.

He said they were expecting the police to unravel what happened saying they were told there was, “surveillance during the incident. So we expect them to tell us what happened.”

The bride, Beatrice Nyaoke was set to renew her marriage vows this weekend.

Nyaoke, a mother of four was wife to Newton Owino, 40.

“It was a young family their first born is in class four while the second born is in class one. It is very unfortunate for this to happen to one partner in a family when they are trying to mould the future of these young kids,” her brother mourned.

Nyaoke was shopping for her wedding set for Saturday when three gunmen confronted them inside a shop on Kaunda Street and pumped bullets into her head and that of her brother-in-law.

According to Owino, Beatrice was a businesswoman at Nairobi’s Huruma suburbs selling second-hand clothes.

The husband who was left unhurt in the Monday incident works as a security guard.

The said wedding had been postponed twice and was set to be held on Saturday, August 17.

Central divisional Police chief Patrick Oduma speaking after the incident said they believe the attackers were on a killing mission.

“This incident occurred at around 4pm whereby the bride and the brother to the bridegroom had come to buy a ring. The couple was set to marry on Saturday at a church in Mathare North (St Christopher ACK Church),” Oduma said.

“According to us, this is a total assassination or murder; we are going to follow up the matter and bring to book whoever is involved.”

“We have launched investigations to why this could happen in this manner. The intention was not to steal,” he stated.
