NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 22 – Nairobi lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi has denied allegations that he is pursuing a personal vendetta against the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary Gladys Shollei.

In an interview with K24, Abdullahi who is a member of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) said that has enjoyed an amicable working relationship with Shollei and could therefore not be accused of orchestrating the JSC’s decision to send her on compulsory leave.

“It’s unfortunate because I’ve worked with Shollei more than anybody else because I’m the chairman of the Finance and Administration Committee of the Judiciary and I’ve always worked with her very nicely. I have never had a problem with her,” he said.

Shollei has accused Abdullahi of harbouring a grudge over the procurement of a property that will house the Court of Appeal in Mombasa.

“I’ve had difficult relations with him in the last several months (over) the whole issue about the Mombasa building. As chair of the Finance Committee I told him about a building the Law Society of Kenya had recommended we purchase and he told me to forget about it,” Shollei said implying that Abdullahi sought to benefit from the deal.

Abdullahi in turn questioned Shollei’s motives for dragging his name through the mire and was adamant that he has nothing to answer.

“I don’t know why they pick on me (maybe) because I’m the weakest link in the JSC or the strongest link? But you see it is those who make the choice to pick on me who should really answer. It’s not for me to explain why I’m being picked on,” he said.

Abdullahi went on to intimate that by making the damaging allegations against him, Shollei could have been avenging those who felt wronged by him in the past.

“The problem I have with some lawyers is that they think I have brought their world to an end through the reforms I brought in when I was the Law Society of Kenya Chairman,” he said.

Abdullahi did not reveal in the broadcast interview what “corpus of malpractices,” per se the JSC Finance and Administration committee he chairs is investigating Shollei for.

Shollei however expressed confidence, when she made the damning allegations, that she would be able to corroborate her accusations should she need to.

“Ordinarily I would not say this but I have nothing to lose. They’ve destroyed me and so I will not lie about it because this is something that I can always confirm any time,” she said.
