NAIROBI, Kenya Aug 27 – Imagine coming home to find your only daughter lying in a pool of blood a few hours after speaking to her on phone and making plans for the evening.

As sad and unbelievable as it may sound, Joyce Muthoni is one hurt mother who is yet to come to terms with the death of her 20 year-old daughter.

Her last conversation was a phone call informing her about their dinner plans. Little did she know that that was going to be the last time to ever hear her daughter Mitchelle Ng’endo utter a word.

“I spoke to Ng’endo during the day to find out how she was fairing and to inquire if she had some bus fare to go visiting my sisters as I had not left her any. She told me that she didn’t have any money and would stay home and wait for me,” she painfully recalls.

It was the night of July 29, when Muthoni entered her house and instead of hearing the happy giggles and shouts of her one year old granddaughter, there was dead silence that sent cold shivers down her spine.

“As I approached my house I noticed something peculiar. The gate was wide open; I noticed that the front door was also open. I called after Ng’endo several times and there was no response. Immediately I started to shiver with fear as I entered into the dark house. I noticed that there seemed to have been some struggle as things were in a mess. I soon realised that the television set and radio were missing and immediately, I knew we had been robbed.”

Due to suspicion that it could have been a robbery, she decided to tiptoe into the house without switching on the lights.

Unfortunately she tripped after stumbling on something that lay on the way to her bedroom. It turned out to be the body of her daughter.

“I went into Ngendo’s room. She was not there and concluded that she and her daughter must have fled during the robbery. I hurriedly went into my bedroom to drop my handbag and the body of my child tripped me. Ng’endo lay naked in a pool of blood with an electric cord around the neck,” she explains.

It was a gory sight as her daughter’s body lay in a pool of blood.

Lying near her body was a blood-stained knife. Two fresh stab wounds on her neck were a clear indication that her daughter died a painful and brutal death.

To add assault to injury, on a closer look at the brutally mutilated body, her daughter seemed to have been raped before her young life was cut short.

As Muthoni frantically fled the house calling for help from neighbours what she was met was not any less of a horror.

The state of her one year old granddaughter was quite appalling. The little innocent girl was not spared from the dreadful act.

She was stuffed in a plastic bag and wrapped in bed sheets.

“As I ran out of the house I noticed something move. On a closer look I realised it was my granddaughter. She was in a bag wrapped in bed sheets. I did not even manage to untie her… I just went out and the already gathered crowd are the ones who untied her. She also had an electric cord around her neck. They also wanted to kill her,” she recalls.

Luckily, the little girl survived the ordeal.
