President Kenyatta said unemployment and high levels of poverty were the major contributors of conflicts and insecurity in the country.
Addressing a breakfast leaders meeting at Nakuru State House, the President told elected leaders at the two levels of government to settle down and formulate the necessary policies and legislations that would improve the lives of Kenyans.
The President further impressed on leaders at the two levels of government to embrace dialogue and consultations on all issues affecting Kenyans to ensure participation in the final decisions affecting wananchi.
Saying the time for politicking was over, President Kenyatta called all Kenyans to now shun divisive activities and direct their energies towards initiatives that would promote peace and unity in the country.
Underlining the importance of teamwork, President Kenyatta therefore challenged leaders to avoid unnecessary wrangles that would deter them from fulfilling their mandate.
The President reaffirmed his commitment to serve all the 40 million Kenyans without discrimination.
On the prevailing peace in the country, President Kenyatta said Kenyans should strive to maintain unity and harmonious co-existence to ensure tangible development was realized.
The President once more asked the youth to shun the retrogressive practices of drug abuse and consumption of illicit brews and instead direct their energies towards activities that will improve on their lives.
In this regard, the President said the government will ensure that the stipulated official drinking hours be observed to the letter.
Speaking during the meeting Nakuru County leaders led by the Governor Kinuthia Mbugua assured the President that they were working together to ensure effective service delivery and maintenance of the prevailing peace among the communities in the cosmopolitan region.
Present during the meeting were Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Felix Koskei and his Interior counterpart Joseph Ole Lenku, Secretary to the Cabinet Francis Kimemia and elected leaders from the County among other senior Government officials.
