NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 8 – Former Cabinet Minister Raphael Tuju was on Monday questioned by police over the death of his wife’s lover Tony Ogunda.

Briefing the media after the three-hour grilling session by detectives at the Kilimani Police Station, Tuju said he has recorded a statement over the death of the former General Service Unit (GSU) officer, whom he had accused of wrecking his marriage.

“Tony Ogunda is known to me because I do have three court cases against him; two of them are criminal cases and one of a matrimonial nature. So it was very unfortunate to learn that his death had occurred at my premises,” said Tuju who had at one time expressed interest in the presidency.

The former Rarieda MP said that it was unfortunate that the deceased’s body had been found on his property even though ‘there is an active court order that bars him from going to any of his premises.

“I can’t say too much, I don’t want to speculate anything. I want to give the police the space to do their investigations,” stated the former MP.

Tuju told the police that he was in South Africa when Ogunda passed away, he only come back to the country on Friday.

“When I heard about it I gave instructions to my employees who work there to give the police all the cooperation,” he said.

He also confirmed that he was aware that his nephew Cosmas Okoth, who was with Ogunda before he died, lived at his Upper Hill property.

Tuju said he raised Okoth who was orphaned after his father (Tuju’s brother-in-law) passed on.

“I was able to confirm that he was living in those promises with my permission.”

Okoth was presented at the High Court on Friday, but police asked for seven days to complete investigations.

Also questioned on Monday was a woman who was identified as a friend to the late Ogunda. Police had last week questioned Tuju’s wife Ruth Akinyi and his son Mano Tuju.

The younger Tuju happens to have been drinking with the deceased and other friends’ days before Ogunda, 24, was found dead in their house last Tuesday morning.

“I want to thank the many Kenyans who have wished me well and who have prayed especially for my children who are really devastated. This is a wilderness moment for me and my family,” Tuju said.
