NAIROBI, Kenya Jul 5 – Police on Monday morning shot and killed three suspected gangsters during a shootout along the Thika Superhighway.

The incident occurred near the GSU drift within Ruaraka.

According to police, the slain suspected thugs were in the company of two others and were headed to commit a robbery in Ruiru when they were confronted by officers who had been trailing them.

“Our officers from the Special Crime Prevention Unit had been tipped off that the thugs were planning a robbery at a farm in Ruiru and that is when they started pursuing them,” Nairobi Police Chief Benson Kibui said.

“When they noticed that the officers were chasing them, one of them opened fire at the police car and that is how the shootout started.”

Two of the thugs were however, lucky to escape but police believe they sustained injuries.

Police believe the vehicle recovered from the thugs was stolen.

“We will scrutinize the registration documents,” Kibui said. “We also recovered a pistol and a home-made gun.”
