Senators want offices, computers for county reps

Lesuuda added that the industry had a huge potential to create jobs for hundreds of youths who are currently jobless while at the same time enhancing the marketability of livestock trade.

“If one county or two or three do not enjoy the benefits of devolution, we will all have failed as senators. And it’s not that we are dictating to our county governments but we are just asking that please prioritise the money so that we have things that will add value to the people of the respective counties,” she urged.

Busia Senator Amos Wako added that the Kenya Meat Commission (KMC) should be upgraded because it had a huge capacity to perform better than it currently does.

The KMC had actually collapsed before it was revived after years of redundancy.

“I was once a director at the KMC in the ’70s and I recall receiving a delegation from Botswana who wanted to know how we run it. They went to Botswana and copied everything but theirs is thriving and ours has gone down,” he noted.

Voting on the Motion was however put off by Deputy Speaker Kembi Gitura to Wednesday afternoon to allow Senators reach the requisite number to cast ballots on matters affecting the counties.
