Addressing the media on Friday, Government Spokesman Muthui Kariuki said the aircraft had three persons on board.
“The government would like to announce the disappearance of a Cessna type 206, registration number 5Y BUG,” Kariuki said.
The aircraft was travelling from Rendille in Turkana on Thursday at 1600 hours and was set to land at Wilson airport at 1725 hours.
He said search and rescue operations are ongoing in Othaya constituency in Nyeri County where the rescue team has been receiving signals from the aircraft.
“Unconfirmed reports indicate that the aircraft could have crash-landed in some dense forest somewhere in Othaya as that is where the rescue team is receiving some form of signal from,” he added.
“Search and rescue operations are on-going in spite of the bad weather conditions in areas around Muranga; we want to ask persons living around these areas to cooperate with the rescuing team and offer any assistance.”
The private aircraft was chartered by Yellow Wings Company based at Wilson airport.
“We cannot disclose the identity of the three persons as we do not have their information but we shall keep you updated,” the government spokesman assured.
