NAIROBI, Kenya Jul 23 – President Uhuru Kenyatta has appointed a taskforce that will map out a new policy direction for State corporations.

The 10-member team is expected to review parastatal policies, identify challenges and propose a new policy direction with a view to transforming them into efficient and innovative institutions.

Former Mandera Central MP Abdikadir Mohamed will head the team.

Other members are National Treasury Principal Secretary Kamau Thugge, Vision 2030 Director General Mugo Kibati and Korir Sing’oei from the deputy president’s office.

Former Capital Markets Authority CEO Stella Kilonzo and Angalie Mediratta , CIC Insurance boss Nelson Kuria, Kenya Private Sector Alliance CEO Carole Kariuki and proprietor of Burbidge Capital Ltd Edward Burbidge will also sit on the team as representatives of the private sector.

In a dispatch to newsrooms, President Kenyatta explained that the membership of the taskforce brings on board professionals from both government and the private sector.

“The taskforce will deliver its report not later than September 15, 2013,” instructed the president, saying the team would be transformational.

Key in its mandate is to audit qualification and capabilities of people at the boards and senior management levels, signalling an end to a tradition that has seen State corporations used to accommodate politically-connected individuals.
