This is a story of a 10 year old girl, who until March 28 was a standard 4 pupil at Bibirioni Primary School in Limuru/FILE

Plot to cover-up rape of 10yr old orphan

The clinical officer decided to have the girl taken to a children’s home for protection and also for legal action.

“After gathering information from the aunt, I thought it was wise to ask for second opinion. I called the Public Health Officer and we thought the wise thing is for her to go to a children’s home so that we could protect her,” she recalled.

There were no samples available when she went for examination since she had been abused three days before seeking medical attention.

“We did a HIV test, it was negative… we did not take any sample from the area because the last act was done on Sunday and we received the girl on Wednesday. If there was an act the previous night we would have taken sample from there it would have given confirmatory information,” she asserted.

Capital FM News visited Nest Children’s Home where the young girl is staying after the reported defilement.

From observation, it is not hard to pick her out even though we had not seen her before.

As other children were busy playing, a young girl wearing a sewn pink and cream hat, black shoes, a trouser, cream dress and a blue sweater sat with her right hand supporting her chin in the chilly weather. She looked unhappy and thoughtful.

In a striking turn of events, the director of the children’s home brusquely told off the Capital FM News crew.

“This case is already in court. You cannot talk to her. You don’t publish stories that are in court,” she lashed out.

On being asked for the case number, she started to explain that the case was mentioned on June 6 and she even attended the mention. After denying us a chance to talk to the girl she told us to go and talk to the children’s officer who was handling the case. She referred to her as Pauline.

Back in Limuru Town, Pauline was alone in the office.

Her reaction was clear that she had already been informed about our ‘unwanted’ visit.

Just like the director of Nest Children’s home, Pauline said the case was in court and there was a mention about two weeks ago. However despite handling the case, she also could not recall the date when it was mentioned in court. She had no records and did not even have the case number. Instead she called the Tigoni OCS to inform him that a reporter was at her office inquiring about the girl’s defilement.

The best she could also do was to confidentially advise that we should stop following up the story.

“I wouldn’t advise you to follow this story or to publish it. Let me close the door… I want to tell you something but on strict confidence. That case is a bit complicated. It holds a lot of false information,” she warned.
