NYAHURURU, Kenya, May 29 – A middle aged woman was on Wednesday arraigned before a Nyahururu court and charged with sexually molesting an under-age boy at Kongasis village in Marigat district.
The accused however denied the offence when she appeared before Nyahururu Resident Magistrate Peter Muholi and was released on a bond of Sh200,000 with a surety of a similar amount until July 18 when the hearing of the case will begin.
Betty Chepkemoi is accused of she sexually defiled the 12-year-old boy at Kongasis, Marigat district of Baringo County on May 25.
The accused also faced another charge of indecently assaulting the boy.
The prosecution told the court that the victim – a son to Chepkemoi’s neighbour – was sleeping in her house with other children when she took him to her bedroom and committed the offence.
The court heard that other children heard a commotion and a distress call from the boy.
He was released and warned not to tell anyone about the incident but the distraught boy informed his parents and other neighbours who reported the matter to the police.
The accused was arrested and locked up at the Kongasis police station and later charged in court with the offence.
