NAIROBI, Kenya, May 31 – A man embroiled in a love triangle with former cabinet minister Raphael Tuju’s wife has been arrested after being found together with the politician’s spouse.

The man identified as Tony Ogunda was arrested at about 9pm on Thursday night after Tuju called the police.

He was detained at the Kilimani police station where the area police chief Bernard Muli said the case will be investigated fully.

“Last night we got a complaint from Honourable Raphael Tuju that there was somebody who had trespassed in his home. We sent our officers there and we managed to arrest one person who could not explain himself as to why he had gone there,” he told reporters in his office.

“He was arrested and we are investigating the matter. Soon, he will appear in court for trespass or any other offence that may be disclosed,” he said.

The one-time Foreign Affairs Minister said he notified the police of the man’s presence at one of his homes in Upper Hill because there is a retraining court order barring Ogunda from going to the home.

He also denied claims by the man that he assaulted him before calling the police.

“I did not assault the man who trespassed into my house. I only called the police to arrest him. We already have a divorce case (with my wife) pending in court and there is an order restraining him from coming to my home,” Tuju told Capital FM News on telephone.

“I did not assault him, those are false claims,” he said.

Ogunda who spoke to Capital FM News from Kilimani police station however insisted that he was assaulted by the former minister and his bodyguards.

“Yesterday I was from Nakuru and went to Mrs Tuju’s house. I do not know if it was a trap because it was not even five minutes that I arrived that he broke in the door and windows, came in with his security and started harassing and beating us up,” he revealed.

I did not assault the man who trespassed into my house. I only called the police to arrest him. We already have a divorce case (with my wife) pending in court and there is an order restraining him from coming to my home – Tuju told Capital FM News on telephone.

“He (Tuju) was the main character there while one of his guards was holding a gun to me,” he said.

Ogunda was also adamant that he was a guest of Tuju’s wife.

“It was not trespassing because I was invited, that is not trespass – I was invited by Mrs Tuju,” he stated.

A divorce case filed by Tuju against his wife whom he accuses of cheating is pending in court.

In a sworn affidavit, he had said that he can no longer live with his wife Ruth Akinyi Wanjare, for openly cheating on him with the former GSU officer.

Tuju and Ruth got married on November 15, 1986 and have three children.

In his petition, Tuju had claimed that Ruth has gone as far as bringing Tony to his home in Karen and at one point rented him an apartment in Ngong.
