Nduku made the assertion during a funeral service held for her husband in Mbooni ahead of his burial, a day after a court ruled that a DNA test be carried out to ascertain the parentage of the other woman’s seven year old son.
“Because my husband could not buy me flowers every day he planted me a rose garden that spelt my name. Even when we moved house I had a rose garden that spelt Nduku. So obviously the man loved me and this is the man I want to remember.”
Nduku’s brother Chris Musau, who on Wednesday had mourners laughing as he recounted the marriage negotiations between his family and Kilonzo, did not side step the controversy surrounding Nthenya’s surfacing and congratulated his sister on how she has carried herself in the face of the allegation of infidelity.
“Mutula was a wealthy man and you know when prominent people die, all these people come up but don’t worry, even if another 20 Nthenya’s come we will deal with it,” Musau said in reference to the vastness of Kilonzo’s estate.
Kilonzo’s son Muathi also expressed confidence at Thursday’s funeral service that their family will weather the storm, “Although it’s raining, you can always shield yourself.”
Before reading from a card her late husband sent her, as she did during Wednesday’s funeral service, Nduku said: “He told me he never believed in miracles until he met me,” in a bid to imprint the image of Kilonzo as a loving husband.
Nduku recounted her life with him, including their first days as lovers: “I was engaged to someone else but he convinced me to return the ring to the owner.”
Nduku and Kilonzo had three children. “When we got married, he had four children from his first wife but they are all my children.”
As she bid adieu to her life with the father of her children, Nduku sought to leave no doubt that Mutula Kilonzo was a good husband: “This man without lying spoilt me.”
