Justin Bundi said that Parliament had received some views from the members of the public on the suitability of the 16 cabinet secretaries nominated by President Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto ahead of tomorrow’s deadline.
“The two events are important and so if they are to change anything it has to be within 14 days (needed to vet Cabinet Secretaries) so that we don’t break the law.”
“The notices are already out so the implications of changing also may not very interesting to the players who will be taking part in this,” he continued.
“But I want to leave that to the committee to make a decision when they meet tomorrow and the public will be informed of the decision they have made in regards to their timetable.”
The submissions from the members of the public should reach the Committee on Appointments on or before Tuesday, May 7 at 5pm.
The Committee on Appointments which is chaired by the National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has set Thursday as the date of the start of the public vetting, which will be conducted at the KICC.
Those scheduled for vetting on Thursday are Devolution and Planning Cabinet Secretary nominee Anne Waiguru, Defence Cabinet Secretary nominee Raychelle Omamo, Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary nominee Amina Mohammed, Education Science and Technology Cabinet Secretary nominee Jacob Kaimenyi and National Treasury Cabinet Secretary nominee Henry Rotich
The other nominees will be vetted up to Saturday.
Bundi said that after vetting, the committee will table the list of nominees in Parliament for debate and approval.
