In his inauguration speech, President Kenyatta promised to abolish fees charged to access maternity services in all government dispensaries and health centres.
He committed to utilise the Sh6 billion that had been set aside for a possible election run-off to establish a new Youth and Women Fund.
President Kenyatta assured parents and pupils that he will within the same 100 days of his government put in place measures to ensure that all students joining class one in public school next year received a laptop each as promised during the campaign period.
He said: “This work begins now, we welcome all Kenyans to hold us to account. Within the first one hundred days we will ensure that maternity fees are abolished and that all citizens of Kenya are able to access government dispensaries and health centers free of charge.”
“We made a promise to our children and we will keep it because we believe that early exposure to technology will inspire future innovation and be a catalyst for growth and prosperity,” he added.
The Head of State assured Kenyans of a government that will reflect the true face of Kenya and to that will bring decision making and services closer to the people.
“One of the biggest challenges to national unity is the feeling of exclusion in the decision making process, hence our desire and need for devolution,” he added assuring that his government will also ensure equitable representation of women and young people in the government.
On implementation of the Constitution, the president affirmed that the government will support devolution and create an enabling environment for County leaderships to carry out their constitutional mandate and fulfil the pledges made to Kenyans.
President Kenyatta reiterated that the creation of jobs and opportunities for young people will be a priority for the government saying that the government will create a favourable environment for the private sector to flourish.
He said that the procurement process will be fastened, made more accessible, and transparent adding that process of starting and running businesses in the country will be simplified.
The newly sworn-in Kenyatta said that the government will build on the accomplishments of the outgoing administration in infrastructure development by increasing accessibility through roads and rail networks, as well as increasing digital connectivity.
The President, at the same time, assured that the government being the largest buyer of goods and services, will take the lead by promoting Kenyan goods and services in support of local industries.
The President is expected to address both Parliament and the Senate next Tuesday and announce a detailed government program and legislative agenda.
He warned those who continue to threaten peace and security that they will not be tolerated.
He commended the country’s armed forces for devotedly protecting Kenyans from both external and internal security threats assuring that the Government will continue to provide them with the necessary support to discharge their noble duties.
