The 47 governors chose Ruto as the chairman of the Council of County Governors, while Kidero was elected vice-chairman.
NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 13 – Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto and his Nairobi counterpart Evans Kidero have been elected as leaders of the council of county bosses.
Following the appointment, Kidero stressed that they will be seeking to fulfil all the promises they made to Kenyans during their campaigns.
“We are all ready to work together and we will cooperate in all our endeavours. During our campaigns we promised Kenyans to work hard to improve their livelihoods and we intend to do this. We cannot work alone and that is why we need to join hands to realise our dreams,” he said.
Bungoma governor Ken Lusaka is the secretary of the council that will coordinate consultations amongst the county bosses.
The team is now expected to prepare for the first National and County Government Coordinating Summit, which will to be chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta in two weeks time.
The council, provided for in the Inter-governmental Relations Act, will shape the operations of the 47 governors.
In the meantime, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has become the first county leader to unveil his county executive committee.
Mutua unveiled a group of 11 members to the committee who include several women will have to be vetted and approved by the County Assembly.
According to the governor, the selection was based on professionalism and experience.
He stated that the Cabinet positions were shared equally among the eight constituencies in the county and that gender and minority status were also considered in the selection.
Some of the nominees include Joshua Musili who will be in charge of Energy, Environment and Natural Resources, Kioko Luka in the Transport, Roads and Public Works sector and Naomi Mutie who has been placed in the Health and Emergency services sector.
He has also nominated leaders in Water and Sanitation, Trade, Economic, Planning and Industrialisation, Decentralised Units, Urban Areas and Municipalities.
The nominees for the Finance docket are yet to be named as they are waiting vetting by Mutua’s office.
